Tenant Meeting Tonight, 7:00pm

The second meeting of Jefferson tenants takes place tonight and your participation is requested. Certainly, bring your concerns, but also bring your solutions and your determination to not let your voice be ignored by the management of this building. We would like to keep the conversation directed and on point. I'm told the last meeting went very well and was a cordial affair between a friendly group of about a dozen residents, but we'd like a lot more tonight.

We continue to try to include Melanie into this dynamic, but have been, thus far, rejected. Perhaps she'll join us soon and find out that we're reasonable people trying to make our living experience more enjoyable and not some angry mob. It's really quite the opposite.

There are also links to the management of Greystar on this blog and some tenants have already contacted them. If our concerns continue to go unanswered by the rental office, I'm sure that Greystar will not want to continue to hear a pattern of complaints from its paying customers. I'm also sure that they are aware of this blog as well.

It's December 1st and it's becoming winter. The job market has hardly been worse in a long time. Certainly no one wants to find themselves looking for a new job in this climate!

  1. I was unable to make this meeting. Were there any outcomes? I have struggled to reach Melanie so I'm looking to see if any discussions were had over how to best get her to respond. Thanks!

  3. I heard about this meeting after the fact, but was the guest policy discussed? I have family visiting for Christmas and staying with me for a few days and I don't want the front desk to insist on having my parents show their id every time they come in and out of the building. And does anyone happen to know about how we get an extra key? I have called and left a note with the front desk and no one has gotten back to me. Thanks.

  4. Sparebedroom.
Thanks for writing. This is the ongoing problem that residents have with management--in a nutshell.
I know of no answer but to confront Melanie and get an answer then and there. Someone should be able to provide you with a spare key, unless it is yet another policy that we don't know about. The ID situation? Well, you probably can guess that one.

  5. Sparebedroom,

My parents are coming for Christmas too, and there is no way they are going to show their IDs every time they come in the building. Just not going to happen.

  7. I really don't think I should have to chase Melanie down to get an answer.

  8. I didn't know about this tenant meeting until now. I hadn't checked the blog in a while. Any outcomes? When is the next meeting? And is there any other way to be notified about the meeting other than checking this blog?

  9. Greetings Mad6.
If you check the blog closely you will notice that trying to spread the word other than through this blog has been a challenge. I don't believe that there is a date for the next meeting yet. Rivers, the moderator has promised to fill us in at his earliest convenience, so do check back from time to time.

  10. There must be some law about getting a spare key to your own home. Anybody on here a lawyer?

  11. We do need a building lawyer! Although they might night be so keen on the idea. :)

  12. You can get a spare key from the office, they'll charge you for it. We got one a few months ago, I think it cost $25.

Also, we had family guests this summer for a few days (my folks) and they had to sign in daily. Pain in the ass? You betcha, but policy is policy. And yes, before I get accused of being from the leasing office, I yelled at the concierge about it, but as pissed off as I got, at the end of the day...that's just how it works.

  13. The leasing office? I was going to accuse you of being from Wasilla. You betcha! ;)

  14. $25 for an extra key? I hate that I can't just go get one make for $4. Perhaps the leasing office could loan an additional key for a short period of time (for free)?

I can't say that I'd be willing to sign guests in multiple times if they were staying here for longer than a day - that does seem a bit superfluous.

Not sure yelling would be the route I'd go - I don't think anyone makes much progress with that tactic. Doesn't seem very reasonable, Voice of Reason ;)

  15. do you get to keep the key? or do you get the money back?

  16. CR: Something to do with the chip inside of it or something. I do know that we've had one replaced free of charge (we've been here for over a year) because the tiny battery inside of the key was dead.

I agree on your point, the other side of the coin is if someone is having a 3-day party over July 4 or Memorial Day with their frat brothers crashing at their pad, we wouldn't be happy if they weren't signing them in...I suppose our folks aren't too much different.

And yes, I've learned that yelling at the concierge doesn't help matters at all, if anything, it pisses them off and they're less likely to help. I apologized a few days later and smooth sailing since. :-)

  17. Hey all, as for having guests over the holidays, mgmt posted what looks like an extensive guest policy treatise on the bulletin board by the mail room. I (who knows why) read it all and it's pretty draconian -- I recall something about not being able to sign the same person in for eight says in a row and other provisions about making people occupants on your lease - ha! Maybe the best preparation to avoid any inconvenience to you and your guests would be to give them a list of full names and dates of stay for each of them. That should at least cut down on the ID check.

When it comes to spare keys, I was housesitting for another resident back in July and we obtained a spare key to his place from the office, no charge, no questions asked. Sorry to those who got turned down. Wouldn't it be a coincidence if one of your tiny batteries inside your current keys "died" this week?

  18. Given that they apparently don't track who rents the storage spaces or purchases a parking space, I find it hard to believe that they're going to do their due diligence and check to see if the same person has been signed in 8 days in a row. Hell, just bring your guest in through the garage one of those days throws off this whole policy...

  19. Snake,
They keep track of who rents the storage spaces, it's when folks that just slap their padlock on a vacant space and claim it for their own that the problems arise...for some reason, I'm not surprised that more people on this blog don't have an issue with that.
