Slowing your roll

We'd like to commend management on putting up stop signs in the garage. Now if we could only do something about the blind spot coming out of the garage.
Thanks!

  1. The blind spot is a big problem, I agree. The worst problem is that if I'm focusing my attention on trying to see an oncoming vehicle, a jaywalking pedestrian crossing from Half St. (I will readily admit I am guilty of doing this due to the misplaced crosswalk) is in imminent danger. There are two potential "fixes" for this. 1: remove the parking space. 2: put in a 3-way stop sign. Option 2 provides the best safety, slowing vehicles down that get up to ludicrous speeds from the previous stop sign, allowing us to pull out, and providing a proper crosswalk and traffic control for pedestrians. Both of these solutions involve probably going to the ANC6D meeting and getting our voices heard.

  2. That's right Snake. It's dangerous enough that you can't see the oncoming traffic from the left, but all of the other variables like the pedestrian walking across the street, traffic from the South Capital side, and the inevitable and almost constant double-parking that goes on in front of the building, make the situation that much harder to navigate.

Indeed the current placement of the crosswalk is ludicrous, but the situation could be mitigated somewhat by some of your excellent suggestions. I might add one other option and that is the strategic placement of speed control bumps.

The ANC6D meeting is probably where this problem would be best brought to attention. I encourage folks to attend their ANC meeting and bring this up. Otherwise, there will be a serious accident there. It's just a matter of time.

Don't know where a meeting will be held? There's a link in this blogs blog list.
