We really need a gas station around here

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a convenient gas station in the area? Perhaps this is  concern that is already being addressed or is this something we could bring up with our new ANC representative?

I like the idea of one being built across from the McDonalds. No BP though, please

  1. Not likely to happen, the real estate is too valuable.

  2. there were two years ago, both gone now. Issues of high real estate and security of the Capitol are the reasons.

  3. There used to be at least 2 (one right on the corner of S Capitol by Nats Park), but they're long gone now. They sold out long ago. JDLand's blog probably has more info about this, but it's very doubtful that there will be any built in the near future.

  4. this is something a Lot of people would like to see in the neighborhood, but isn't the best return on investment for landowners. I will certainly keep this desire in mind when land-use and retail space topics and concepts are brought up at the ANC level.

  5. Thank you for responding David.

I understand "return on investment" and understand that money talks, but a gas station would improve the amenities in the neighborhood immeasurably. The city should be in the business of quality of life issues as well as selling it off to the highest bidder. Am I being naive?

I recall a day when DC didn't have grocery stores or big box stores like Target either.

    Congratulations on your decisive win!

  6. First, can we please address the car alarm problem from the parking lot directly across the street from the building? There has been a car alarm that has been going on for....3 days. Yes, thats right, three days. And for those front-facing units, this is extremely frustrating. Any thoughts on how we can address this?

  7. Anon @ 1:39 - it sounds to me like a low-battery alarm. I'd start with the lot's owner. If it's a monthly parking customer (sounds like it would be), they can probably contact the owner. We heard it yesterday as well, and yes, it's pretty annoying once you notice it.

  8. DFT here on 2nd floor. It was pretty bad the past two nights - the constant beep didn't allow for much sleep.

  9. I noticed this as well and called the parking lot people who said there was nothing they could do since the person pays for the space. So I then placed a call in to the police who are looking in to it. This is a total disturbance at this point - it's been 4 days (3 restless nights) of this constant chirping.

Anony at 1:39 and DFT, hopefully this will take care of it. If not, dare I say we contact management to help address this????

Well that makes two of us. (didn't know someone had already called) I've left a message with the parking lot and called and did a noise complaint with DC Police .... weird thing is that this guy knows there is an issue with the alarm (we've seen him trying to fix it from our window). We can mostly block it out with the windows closed.

  11. It should be the responsibility of the lot owners to contact the owner of the vehicle. If they are paying for the spot, it would not be difficult for them to call the vehicle's owner. So there's not "nothing they can do". The owner would probably appreciate this as well, as I know the last thing I'd want to find when trying to use my car after a long time is a dead battery.

  12. I agree with Snake, it's not a JPI management issue, it's an issue with the lot. Much like if there was an issue with McDonald's, it wouldn't be up to Melanie and team to fix the siuation.

  13. Sam I am - I think it would be nice if we could rely on management for assistance, is all. I don't think thats too much to ask. But, I think we can all agree that management can't be relied on at all, so asking for their assistance would be a waste of everyones time.

The number to call for the parking lot is 240-482-7746.

Not sure what the police will do, but the car needs to be towed.

  14. ....and the alarm is back on. This guy needs to park somewhere else. Ridiculous.

  15. The phone number for the parking lot is 877-629-7275. The car in question is MD tag56992 - late Toyota Celica model. I suggest that we call and request that this car not be allowed to park in the lot any longer due to the repeat disturbance of the broken alarm. Thoughts?

  16. MD Tag # on said faulty alarm car: 56992BY

It's the car with the canoes on top.

  17. (202) 737-4404 is the non-emergency police number to file a complaint.

  18. Nope. No. That's a bizarre number too. If I'm not mistaken truck tags end with numbers and cars begin with numbers. Something is up with this vehicle.
Should be three letters and three numbers.

  19. It wasn't a truck - its a small old sports car with two canoes strapped on top. The alarm went off again at 3am on Thanksgiving night - we had to call the police and file a noise complaint.
