24-hour party people: Part Deux

Building management has asked me to encourage residents who are disturbed by loud parties (or other disturbances) to email the office at jcy@greystar.com, or to stop by the office during business hours to let them know the specifics of the disturbance. The sooner you do so after the offense, the better they will be able to do something about it. They will send out a written notice to the offender(s) and they assure me this has helped in the past. Of course, there is no better time to do it than during the party.

There is also a Courtesy Officer in the building, who will "be more than happy to break up any party, tell people to leave the hallways, keep down their volume, and ask unwanted guests to leave, or if for some reason, people are getting too rowdy or violent on the roof." to dispatch them. Management HIGHLY encourages residents to call the concierge and have them send the officer up.

It's time that the respectful residents of this building push back against a few clueless, selfish individuals and do something about the oftentimes rowdy atmosphere in the building. It doesn't belong here, Period!

Please feel free to use this blog to report specific events and I will make sure that they are addressed by management. Of course, as always, your anonymity is respected if you should desire it.

It's up to everyone to do their part to make this building into an enjoyable place to live. You pay too much in rent to make living here anything less than pleasurable.

  1. What the hell was going on up there last Friday night? Something needs to be done to curb the enthusiasm of some folks who view this as a fraternity house. Oh, and FYI, it's probably the same people causing the problems all the time. Let's nip this one in the bud!

  3. Friday night was a complete show in the lobby. Had to run down around midnight to see if they had any extra 9V batteries as one of my smoke alarms had started beeping. Multiple people milling about, harassing the concierge, obviously drunk, as well as tenants coming down to let people in while binge drinking. Yes, one girl chugged a glass of red wine while escorting her visitors in. A couple of random dudes from the street were attempting to negotiate a room for the night from the concierge. If it wasn't my building, I would have thought it a pretty funny scene.

Also witnessed a tow truck attempting to extract a vehicle that's been sitting in someone's spot in the garage (multiple tickets, violation sticker) unsuccessfully. The vehicle's wheels were turned and probably locked and the tow truck didn't have the proper hardware to get it out. If that were my parking spot, I'd be pissed.

I've also started to notice the "lurkers" who sit outside the garage, waiting to follow someone in. The ONLY reason this happens (and it appears to happen very frequently, from my vantage point) is because they've been successful doing it and it hasn't been rigorously enforced. If they simply start ticketing everyone who parks there without a sticker, this will cease to be a noticeable problem. Granted, it will also curb people who have multiple cars and one spot, swapping them out during the day, but the stickers are plastic so it should be easy enough to put it on the car that's present in the garage.

  4. I'm glad you have pointed these things out snake. There needs to be some enhanced effort from management to combat some of the ridiculous activity going on in this building.

It's gonna take some effort on the part of the tenants in this building who, like yourself, are tired of this bullshit. I encourage others to let their voices be heard. This blog is read by the rental office, but it's also good to directly let them know how displeased you are. I can't believe they would rather have a bunch of partyers in the building than low maintenance, paying, respectful tenants.

I too have seen the "drink and greet" in the lobby. Some people are way to casual in the common areas and there should be stated, posted rules that drinking isn't allowed in certain areas. The front lobby is one of them. Another is out in front of the building. That's called drinking in public and it's against the law in DC. It's not like sitting on your porch. This isn't a private residence.

I pointed out in a recent blog that people were using the garage to gain access for multiple numbers of people. This is not only a way to gain access into the building, but it's a good way to rip peoples cars off too. A camera on the garage door would be a good idea. Ultimately though, the concierge has no power and they can't do a thing about the situation. I wouldn't want them getting hurt either.

  5. I'd like to know a little more from management, via the concierge, about these "random dudes" trying to negotiate a room for the night. That is entirely F'ed up!

  6. They were clearly inebriated from attending the DMB concert and had wandered in off the street. One of them stumbled out, shouting angrily about how he knew there had to be a hotel nearby that had vacant rooms for under $200/night. His other drunk compatriots were requesting literature about the floor plans, probably in a futile attempt to negotiate a nightly rate. The concierge was humoring them, but she was clearly overwhelmed by the amount of traffic flowing through the doors.

Perhaps a doorman should be hired for the weekend evenings to help out the concierge?

  7. Technically, there's a no alcohol policy on the roof if you read the fine print. I for one, certainly hope that rule isn't enforced, but I'm fearful that if these shenanigans continue, that management's hand will be forced. I hope I'm wrong.

  8. Yeah TR. I think it's nice to take a drink up on the roof too. Though it may not be to policy, there is difference between taking a drink up to the roof--oh what the heck, a bottle of wine--and spending hours up there drinking as much as you can. Like you I worry that a few might ruin it for all.

  9. Spotted: Monday, August 9th, 2010. A rather rowdy group swigging an entire bottle of cheap tequila, getting louder and louder, and eventually throwing one of their female friends into the pool, fully clothed. Aside from all of this, there were children one the roof: a mom with her son (who I can't imagine were happy to watch these events unfold) and a young girl who was actually with the revelers. Bad example? Probably. Bad neighbors? Definitely. Did I mention this was a MONDAY?
