Have you re-upped?

I'm curious... Has anyone signed a lease for an additional year? Are you paying the introductory price or the full price?
I know how I feel about it. I'm ok here at the current rate, but it won't be worth it at the full rate and paying for the garage. I will bolt if that rates don't stay the same.
The person that showed me my apartment is no longer here, but she sold it as being a pretty hot destination. I don't blame her at all. It looked like that would be the case for a while, but boy-o-boy did they put the breaks on around here!
It's strange. The Waterfront seems to be moving forward with its plans. The arena stage, apartments and condos... a mile down the road however, at Navy Yards it's a different story. What's with that?

  1. We requested for at least six weeks to see a renewal notice and none came to us. Leasing office kept saying it was coming...well it never came. We put in our notice and haven't looked back. It has been an interesting year for sure, but I won't be missing hearing my neighbors on both sides of me and the dorm atmosphere that continues to rage on.

  2. This really is a strange building. The rental office is a rather quizzical bunch. They rent you an apartment, don't provide you with a lease, then they don't get back to you when you try to extend your lease. WTF? I don't get it. Are they merely inept or is there something else afoot?

I'm sorry about your experience at J@CY. You are certainly not alone. I'm also sorry about your noisy neighbors. The neighbors on either side of me are respectful and quiet, thank goodness.

I was walking into the building today and there were a half dozen people walking their dogs our front--and I mean OUT FRONT! There were dog people coming into the building from walking their dogs, and there was a frenzy of dog people taking their dogs out for a walk, there were some in the foyer outside the elevator and one stepping off the elevator clutching his little pooch as I stepped on.

As I've mentioned on this blog before, I love dogs, but Jeez. This is like THE dog building in the city. It's too much already! I think every person in the city with a dog moves into this building. Don't these people work? What do their dogs do all day? Why the hell does everyone need a dog. It has to complicate city life.

Most of these dog folks seem pretty young and most seem like they come from out of town. So is this some sort of accoutrement? For safety? To ward off loneliness? What is it?

I feel sorry for the dogs. I wonder if some of them go to the pound when their owners are off to their next adventure.

  3. We (my partner and I) are definitely moving out come the end of our lease -- the price jack at the end of the first year and the incompetency of the management are the two sole reasons.

  4. Where are people going? We are at the end of our lease and looking. But we can't really find anything better. We are 32 and not the animal house people. We are looking for soemthing quiet while still satying in the capitol hill area.

  5. I feel your pain. It's crazy what an apartment goes for in this city. Wherever you go however, it's bound to be expensive as well, but perhaps another part of town will bring the quality of your life up. Can you imagine taking a short walk to get a loaf of bread and some milk, or getting dinner out somewhere in the neighborhood?

  6. Plenty of options on craigslist. Also check Yarmouth reality, they cater more toward renting homes and such, but there are plenty of options that continue to pop up that are significantly less expensive than the status quo.

  7. I heard through a perhaps unreliable grapevine that they were going to offer incentives similar to those offered to new tenants. Can anyone refute this?

  8. I certainly hope so. If the management company wants to fill this building I think it would be rediculous to create a revolving door policy. I don't think I want to stay if the rates go up and I can't say I've met many in the building who do. The situation here hasn't changed much so they certainly have the incentive.
Has anyone out there re-signed their lease? At what rate?
