Death Wish 2010

Ok, things are getting dangerous coming out of the garage.
If you have a car parked in the garage I BET that you have had a close call with an oncoming car at one time or another. If you haven't, you will. It will be just matter of time before there is an accident in front of the building with one car barreling down the street and another coming out of the garage.

I think if the parking spot closet to the garage we made no parking zone it would be a lot safer coming out of the building.

  1. Mirrors across the street would help, but its the city's responsibility. we checked.

  2. YES! I hate leaving the parking garage. You just have to cross your fingers and get out fast ... hoping that there is not an oncoming car heading your way...

What's the best way to get the city to change this? I am sure it will take months, years, or a horrible accident to get DC to fix a parking problem like this...but I agree - the exit is scary and removing that one spot closest to the garage exit would be a GREAT idea.

And unless you live in the building, you probably wouldn't know there is even a parking garage exit right there...

  3. Does anyone regularly attend the district meetings on the 2nd Monday of every month? I've got a laundry list of issues to bring up with our commissioner and plan on going next month. This will definitely be one of them, along with the lack of sidewalk going from Jefferson to the ballpark, and the inability of residents to get zone 6 parking.

  4. I think that this is an issue that is incumbent upon management to deal with. It can't just be put off as being the city's call. It needs to be brought to the attention of the city BY management. LEAVING THE GARAGE IS FLAT OUT DANGEROUS! OK? Don't wait for an accident, because when it happens IT WILL be a bad one.

An additional problem, outside of that last parking spot by the mouth of the garage, is that there is almost ALWAYS at least one vehicle double-parked in front of the building. Day or night there are always cars, official vehicles, and delivery trucks double parked. It makes it impossible to see cars come down the street, and they are usually come fast.

Here is your warning management! This IS gonna happen. How will you handle it then?

  5. Snake, I applaude you for attending the meetings and bringing up your issues.
Are you speaking about the lack of sidewalk along the parking lot across from the building (AKA Dog Poop Alley)? I agree it would be nice to be able to utilize that area for a change. I NEVER walk down that strip of grass!

Also, great point about the parking sticker. What is up with that? Why are we not issued stickers for our zone? Seems like a ripoff to me. It's not as if we never leave the building. We should be able to park within our zone without the fear of being ticketed by the obese, cellphone-talking D dot meter employees.
