I just have to say this....

How clueless do you have to be to constantly slam your door as you go in and out? It's elementary really.
You live in the building. You know what it sounds like. Have some consideration.

  1. Maybe I live in a part of the building that gets drafty, but my door slams even if I try to close it gently. There is just a burst of a draft that takes me off guard and slams my door. So I'm aware of the door slamming, and try to not have my door slam, but sometimes its not my intension to have a slammed door and it still slams. Maybe that is the problem TJ?

  2. Also, do you notice that even when you don't lock your door (say to throw out the trash) that it will lock anyway? This is really annoying. What happens if I lock myself out?

  3. Well Mad, all I am talking about is a little consideration and a little conscious effort. The part of the building I live in is NOT drafty, yet I hear doors slam at all hours, but the mere fact that you try says something. I appreciate the thought!

  4. Wow! You've been complaining about the doors since the day you launched this blog. I am guessing you've renewed your lease as it's been more than a year. If you don't like to shabby construction of overly heavy doors that have no slow-close mechanism, why don't you move out TJ? The doors won't change and neither will be people who don't feel the need to softly coddle them closed when they're coming and going.

  5. I find the door weight not to be a problem but the Saflok to be a problem. This locking mechanism seems faulty and does not always work. Sometimes it takes a few tries to lock or unlock the door - this is a security concern and was a big risk to implement. WIthout proper door security and faulty Saflok electronic locking system, this makes for a far bigger argument over the noise of the doors (which by the way, the noise of the Saflok itself should be annoying to you TJ).

  6. Lease office's manager is incompetent. Its unfortunate since everyone else there tries to do thier best.

  7. On the topic of carelessness and cluelessness -- residents with dogs are out of control. Coming home from work a couple weeks ago, three tenants with 3 dogs had the unleashed and were standing there, watching the dogs battle it out, run up and down the hallways, and dig their claws into the hallway carpet. Then, last weekend, someone left a dog on their courtyard porch or something, and it whined and barked very loudly all day. I was sick and stuck at home, and to hear this dog bark uncontrollably all afternoon was beyond frustrating. Management couldn't figure out where the dog was, neither could I.

The courtyard in general is a disaster for anyone with windows facing the area. Axiom and Jefferson residents are loud at all hours, and the echo chamber amplifies the noise. Recently, some frustrated residents have resorted to screaming and cursing at the obnoxious people, only to make things louder and more hostile for the rest of us.

A really obnoxious group of girls decided to play karaoke until 3 or 4am on Saturday night. Another female resident unleashed a number of strings of profanity towards them, only to provoke louder singing of, not kidding, Bon Jovi's Livin on a Prayer.

Anyone else get treated to these violations of basic respect for your fellow neighbor?

  8. Any time the courtyard noise is bothering you, call the front desk. They will go and make the people move inside if it is after 10 pm. Although they should be doing that without you having to call, but hey, we all know things aren't perfect around here!

  9. I'd say most of the staff is either incompetent or just doesn't care. There clearly is no real supervision or anyone with any true experience leading that pack. It's troubling that this entire building is run with such inefficiency and such a lack of management experience.

as for the careless and clueless residents. Hello - this is been the problem since day 1 of moving in. The leasing office doesn't use any discretion when allowing people to lease. Do they do ANY background checks? It really is like a frat house here and there seems to be no accountability from management to take proper action against the offenders. Instead, they threaten the ENTIRE building with ridiculous rules (that they don't even enforce).
Do the other building’s have these types of problems? Or is it just our building?
