Kilowatts and whatnots

TJ is curious as to much you pay each month on your electric bill?

I'm thinking mine has been a little high even though I hardly ever run the heat. I've been paying this winter, about $65 a month for a one-bedroom.

There are three factors that I think relate to its high cost.
1. The windows in my apartment are drafty as can be--the cold air just blows through them!
2. The gap under the front door is wide
3. The capacity of the hot water heater is pitiful.
We have soaking tubs in our units but I can't get more than maybe half a tub of hot water.

Number 1 & 2 can be addressed pretty simply. 3? Not so much!

  1. If you are having problems with hot water, please put a service request in with the leasing office, but we must have a written statement from you saying that it is ok to have the water heater turned up. Hopefully this will help!

  2. Building management, what's the deal with the windows? They're very, very drafty.
    Thanks

  3. To address #1 let us know if you would like a door sweep put it and we can do so free of charge. As for #3, if there is a draft, let us know and we can re-caulk them for you! Hopefully this clears things up.

  4. I think all of the doors need a door sweep. Ours has a very large gap, as well. When we first moved in I asked about it but didn't really get a clear answer.

Also, all of the windows are drafty, not just a few selective apartments. I've been to several neighbors apartments and noticed the same thing.

A door sweep for everyone would be nice, though, at least. I think it will also cut down on the amount of noise heard in the hall from tenants, and noise from folks in the hall by tenants.

    Thanks.

  5. That's a great point about everyone needing a door sweep. It would help us all cut down on our energy bills and perhaps keep some of the hallway noise down to a minimum.

I'm at a loss as to why anyone would design an apartment building with such large gaps at the bottom of the door. It seems elementary that heat and air conditioning would just pour out from under the door. I'll post a notice in it's own thread that the door sweeps can be had from the rental office.

While we're on the subject...it should be noted that it doesn't take much to be heard, both from the hallway, and from units themselves. Please respect your neighbors by being as considerate as possible.
